COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Sahiwal campus has celebrated National Green Day on Thursday, February 09, 2017 in line with request of the HEC and Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Green Pakistan Program, Ministry of Climate Change, Government of Pakistan regarding celebration of National Green Day throughout Pakistan under Prime Minister's Green Pakistan Program.

The day was kicked off by Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director, CIIT Sahiwal with awareness walk followed by his speech on “importance of plantation and climate change” near computer science academic block. Different head of departments, faculty members and large number of students participated in it. Members of civil society from Sahiwal also participated in this celebration.

While addressing to the students and faculty members, Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat highlighted the importance of plantation in our lives. He briefed about adverse impacts of climate change and global warming. Green energy plays pivotal role in countering adverse impacts of global warming. Moreover, forestry and wild life are two important resources for well being and development of society. The participants were requested to promote culture of green energy by planting maximum number of trees in their surroundings in line with vision of the Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Program.

On behalf of top level management of COMSATS University, Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq Shaukat, Director, Sahiwal campus extended his full support for contributing towards the program cause and implementing the Green Pakistan program in an illustrious manner.

He advised Mr. Safdar Ali to establish close liaison with focal person of this program for further contribution in this noble cause.He appreciated the efforts of gardeners as well.

The day was concluded with plantation of trees in the campus and outside the campus on canal bank. The Director, Members of civil society, HoDs and large number of students planted trees in and outside the campus.This campaign will continue for one week.
